Anna Chowdhury (she/her)
I grew up in the Southern Oregon countryside where multiple litters of kittens were born on my childhood bed, and where I got to watch my dad help deliver calves in the spring. I was always in awe of nature and the miracle and science that is birth. I attended my first (human) birth at six years old alongside my mom who was supporting her friend’s home birth. I perched on a chair in the corner of the bedroom and took in all the raw beauty, pain and joy. I was hooked, I was a natural born caretaker, birth worker and mother.
If only every single individual was able to be held, nurtured and supported in the way that a doula knows how to hold, nurture and support I truly believe this world would be a more gentle and loving place. I am here to ground you, support your needs and values, offer education and help you create the birth story that you desire. I will set aside my own personal projections and let you be you in your most vulnerable yet powerful metamorphosis. You are your own body’s and baby’s intuitive expert, I am just here to encourage, listen and direct in times of uncertainty.
As a previous pediatric medical assistant, small business owner and mother of four, I hold deep space for all who are preparing to bring new life into the world. I work and reside in Portland, Oregon with my partner, four children, eight chickens and one Australian Labradoodle. I have personally given birth in a hospital, a birthing center and twice at home — all locations can be beautiful. I support and advocate for all family arrangements, orientation, race, religion and culture.

About Anna
Becoming a mother at 19 (21 years ago) has given me an extra dose of passion for supporting young birthing people
I make time to also take on both medicaid and pro bono clients in need of birth, termination and loss doula support
World travel (with all four children) is my favorite thing. It’s so very exhausting, bonding and transformative for a family unit
I’m a donor conceived person, and also an advocate for inclusive paid fertility care and donor regulations
Collecting textiles and art is my “hobby”
I live in an A-Frame cabin home that was built in 1961, it’s an on going project!
When my children are all grown I hope to spend a few years in South Asia, where my partner is from, as a doula in the rural villages

“I can’t imagine my birthing experience without Anna. She was amazing at offering various natural pain relieving techniques. In the postpartum period Anna held my sweet newborn and helped me with nursing so I could get some much-needed rest. Small caring touches like that are part of what made Anna such a special Doula. She also worked very well with our other medical providers (midwives, OB, nurses) to make the labor and birthing process as easy as possible. I would highly recommend Anna because of her warmth, knowledge and compassion.”
